Whatarangi Winiata has been and still is an inspiration to all who come in contact him. He is fully supported by his staff and whanau.
I have been involved over the last couple of years with the Information Technology area as a Kaiwhina (volunteer worker). The Wananga-o-Raukawa needs to be able to communicate with it's students all over New Zealand so the idea of Distance Learning becomes a real issue to tackle.
Although we live in a rural area and glad of it we need to partner with organisations that can help us achieve our goals as well as develop a knowledge base of expertise that would allow us to become a Centre of Excellence in this field.
Te Wananga-o-Raukawa needs support as it competes in a competitive education sector. It also helps the name of Otaki to be promoted throughout New Zealand.
The photo was taken at an awards evening for innovation. A project called Computers 2000 was undertaken and to allow all students who enrol at Te Wananga to become computer literate and be able to not only master the computer but also to empower them to use the internet and email.
The Prime Minister Helen Clark presented the award on the evening recognising the innovation shown by Te Wananga-o-Raukawa.
